2013 SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
Marine Officer NROTC Program
- $180,000 awarded
- Be a US citizen
- Be not less than 17 years old by September 1 of year starting college and no more than 23 on June 30 of that year
- Not have reached your 27th birthday by June 30 of the year in which your graduation and commissioning are anticipated
- Have acquired a high school graduation or equivalency certificate by August 1 of the year you plan to enter the NROTC program
- Have no moral obligations or personal convictions that prevent conscientious bearing of arms and supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic
- Be physically qualified by Navy standards
- Not have 30 or more or more semester hours or 45 or more quarter hours of college credit upon application
- Recommended to begin process 2nd semester Junior Year in High School

EMELIA EHMKE SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Mrs. Ehmke taught 1st grade at San Jose for 44 years. In honor of her dedication to education, she has established a scholarship fund for students pursuing a degree in education (with preference to students going into elementary education).

MCFARLAND CHARITABLE FOUNDATION
The primary purpose of the foundation is to improve the health care services in the Havana, Illinois area by providing scholarships to qualified registered nursing students. These students must agree to return to the Havana area to serve as a registered nurse for 2 years of each year of funding by the foundation.

LOUIS E HERMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
In honor of Louis E Herman and his contributions to Illini Central School District and the Mason City community, a scholarship has been funded for students pursuing a degree in high education.
- $1,000 scholarship awarded to 1 ICHS graduating senior to help with tuition at an accredited college of recipient’s choice
- Description of activities involved in the entire 4 years of high school
- Description of awards and honors that have been received
- Brief description of the community activities and volunteer services performed during high school.
- One page essay on the importance of civic responsibilities, giving back to your community, and what you will do with these experiences in the future.

Mason City History Scholarship
- $500 award to an ICHS senior who plans to attend college beginning fall 2013.
- Accepted by and attending trade or professional school the fall of graduation year.
- Program of study is at least 6 months long, and no longer than 1 year (cannot be a 2 or 4 year degree program.
- 750-1,000 word paper on one of the following topics: Brickyards of Mason City, Mason City’s Railroad History, or Mason City Mayors.

- Must be accepted by and planning to attend a college, university, or technical school the fall of their graduation year.

- 1 page statement about what was learned from the research.

2013 Scholastic Awards Information

- 2-$1,500 awards given specific to students enrolled in a 2 year associate degree or trade certification program.

Illinois Division of Sons of Confederate Veterans: Illinois Society, Military Order of Stars and Bars
- $1,000 awarded to graduating senior who resides in Illinois and will be enrolling in the fall at a community college, college, or university
- Student must be a descendant of a male who served honorably in the Army, Navy, Judicial, Executive, or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America
- Lineal or collateral family lines must be documented genealogically with a decadency chart
- Student must submit a 500 word essay. The topic of the essay shall deal with an event, person, philosophy, or ideal associated with such cause during the War Between the States.

Kathryn G. Hansen Scholarship

- Must be enrolled full time as a high school senior in the 2012-2013 academic year in Illinois, progressing normally toward graduation, and planning to enter college no later than the fall following graduation.
- Must have a strong commitment to pursue a higher education in an office professional, secretarial, or business-related field within the State of Illinois with preference given to attendance at the University of Illinois.
